Ciao Florence Tours · Florence

Chianti by e-bike

You pedal out of Florence on an e-bike, climb past the city views into the hills around Impruneta, and stop at a winery for a long lunch with its wines. Pick it if you'd like to earn your glass: it's the most active day on this site and one of the cheapest.

Chianti E-Bike Tour with Lunch & Tastings

About this experience

The start is a garage in Via delle Ruote, about 15 minutes' walk from Santa Maria Novella. After a short test ride, the group crosses the city on the bikes, over the Arno and up through the hills south of Florence. That city section is the part people underestimate. Guests describe busy, narrow streets and fast descents; the operator turns away anyone who can't handle the bike in the test, with no refund.

Once you're up, the views back over the Duomo are the reward. You ride roughly 10 to 12 miles to a farm winery near Impruneta for a cellar visit and a three-course lunch (a Tuscan platter, pasta with ragù, a dessert from the kitchen) with its wines. Impruneta is Chianti Colli Fiorentini country, outside the Classico zone. Then it's mostly downhill back to town and a second tasting at the CiaoFoodies Hub in Florence. One guest called that "only a bar", others loved the sommelier.

On price: the listing also sells a self-guided option without guide, lunch or tastings, so check that the $51 you see is the guided tour before you pay. On top, everyone chooses EUR 20 damage cover or a EUR 200 card deposit. And be fit for it. A 2026 guest under 5 ft 5 in found the bikes hard to stop; another said the guide set a race pace. If that sounds wrong for you, the Vespa tour drives you out of the city first.

What guests say

★★★★★

Our guide was awesome with local knowledge, the bikes were brand new and had plenty of power for the hills. [...] After lunch, it was a mostly downhill cruise back into Florence, followed by a second tasting at a chic venue in the city with a knowledgeable sommelier and a great tasting plate.

Be prepared to ride 10-12 miles BEFORE lunch so eat breakfast first. You will need energy for this ride even with the pedal assist. [...] They give you a water bottle at beginning but no water holder so bring a small backpack.

We went straight from the train station to the meeting point, a 15-minute walk. The e-bikes were perfect to go up the hills and into the wine country. [...] We started the tour at about 9:45 am and were back by 4 pm.

Amazing trip cycling through the Tuscany hills exploring a local vineyard. Our tour group included a 70 year old, with E-bikes make it suitable for all. Stunning views and a chance to soak up the countryside.

Tips before you book

  • Check the option name before paying: the self-guided version has no guide, no lunch and no wine.
  • Bring a small backpack. You get a water bottle but no holder, and you refill at fountains.
  • Wear closed shoes and clothes you don't mind getting chain grease on.
  • Drink at lunch, but go easy: you still ride back through traffic.
  • Quitting midway costs EUR 30 and you find your own way home.

Frequently asked questions

How fit do you need to be for the Chianti e-bike tour?

Reasonably fit and a confident rider. The motor helps on climbs, but you handle a heavy bike in city traffic and on fast descents. Guests from 15 to 70 have done it; others found it harder than expected.

What is the minimum age and height?

14 years and 150 cm (4 ft 11 in). There's a test ride before departure, and anyone who can't ride safely can't join, with no refund.

Is lunch included?

On the guided tour, yes: a three-course lunch with wine at the winery, plus a second tasting in Florence. The self-guided option includes neither.

Is this a Chianti Classico ride?

No. The route stays in the hills around Impruneta, south of Florence, in the Chianti Colli Fiorentini area. For Classico estates, look at the small-group Classico half day.
